I am a peer supporter, recreation therapist, and therapeutic storyteller from Austin, TX. I went to the Alternatives Conference here. It was fantastic. I found out there that I could get WRAP services as a client of the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS).
I saw the following slogan on the tee shirt of a man with a visual impairment, whom I met at my health club (paid for by my Humana Medicare policy), namely: “The only disability is a bad attitude!”
I said to him: “That’s going on my business card and my ball cap!” And so it has, along with the declaration: “I have a good attitude!”
I am very tired tonight because I just completed my first day back at work as a recreation therapist at a psychiatric hospital after not working for a year due to my illness. Hooray for me! I am living proof that there is “a hope and a future.”
